MoldZyme
Mold & Mildew Stain Cleaner F.A.Q.
What is MoldZyme Stain Cleaner?
MoldZyme Stain Cleaner is a proprietary enzyme blend
scientifically engineered for the cleaning of mold and mildew stain
and the removal of the related musty odor.
^top^
What is in it?
MoldZymeTM is made of enzymes which are proteins
functioning as biochemical catalysts that initiate, maintain and/or
accelerate specific chemical reactions.
^top^
Is MoldZyme Stain Cleaner easy to use?
MoldZyme Stain Cleaner is very easy and safe to use.
For existing mold and mildew stain, apply MoldZyme Stain Cleaner
to the surface and scrub away mold and mildew stains using a sponge,
cloth or brush. For severe stains, apply MoldZyme Stain Cleaner
and let stand before scrubbing.
MoldZyme Stain Cleaner is not a bleach, so do not
expect to see stains immediately disappear just by pouring it onto
a surface.
For hard to reach or large areas, MoldZyme Stain
Cleaner is more effectively applied with a fogging device. Exterior
walls, especially where condensation from room air conditioning
units causes mold and mildew stain, can be effectively cleaned using
MoldZyme Stain Cleaner and a pressure washer without harming paint
or exterior finish.
^top^
Is MoldZyme Stain Cleaner harmful to the user?
MoldZyme Stain Cleaner is non-toxic and contains
no harsh chemicals. No special clothing is necessary for application.
Unlike chlorine, ammonia or other harsh chemicals that produce strong,
toxic fumes, MoldZyme Stain Cleaner is not harmful to the user and
does not require special ventilation. However, due to the potential
risk of exposure to mold and mildew, it is a good policy to wear
respiratory protection while working in areas where mold is present.
^top^
Can MoldZyme Stain Cleaner be used with pressurized cleaning systems?
Yes, MoldZyme Stain Cleaner is compatible with most
commercial cleaning systems: pressurized, mechanical, and manual.
However MoldZyme Stain Cleaner cannot be used with steam, thermal
foggers or in temperatures in excess of 130 °F (54.5 °C).
^top^
Where can MoldZyme Stain Cleaner be used?
MoldZyme Stain Cleaner can be used on almost any
surface that has mold and mildew stains: tile, wallpaper, wall vinyl,
drapes, carpet, ceiling tiles, patios, decks, walkways, stucco,
even HVAC coils and filters – any surface that is washable
with water. Caution should be taken when cleaning water-based, painted
walls. The water-based paint may be removed or lightened with the
use of MoldZyme™ Mold & Mildew Stain Cleaner. MoldZyme™
Mold & Mildew Stain Cleaner is non-corrosive and can be safely
used on metal surfaces and metal finishes.
^top^
Will MoldZyme Stain Cleaner stain or damage carpet or fabrics?
Unlike chlorine-based products that can cause damage,
MoldZyme Stain Cleaner is not harmful to carpet, furniture, fabrics
or any other surface that is washable with water. We do not recommend
using it on sensitive fabrics like: silk, linen, velvet, etc. It
is always a good policy to test any cleaning product in an inconspicuous
area before using, if you are unsure. Some fabrics are more difficult
to clean due to their inherent high surface area; for example, mold
may grow in and around all of the fabric’s fibers and this
makes it difficult to physically “reach” the mold stain
for removal. For these applications it may be best to use a brush
or high-powered spray to remove the mold stain. Keep in mind that
some stains are impossible to remove no matter what cleaner you
use.
^top^
How does MoldZyme Stain Cleaner work on grout?
Tile grout is porous (except for epoxy grout). Mold
and mildew stain, if left alone, will penetrate the grout, making
it impossible to thoroughly clean. Routine cleaning with MoldZyme
Stain Cleaner will keep grout free from mold and mildew stain. Regular
washing with cleaners containing acid or bleach can cause the grout
to deteriorate and can bleach the pigmentation of colored grout.
Just one cleaning with acid or bleach-based cleaners can ruin tile
and polished stone.
If mold and mildew stain has already penetrated the
grout, the best solution is to remove the grout, thoroughly clean
the area with MoldZyme Stain Cleaner, and replace the grout. Then
use MoldZyme Stain Cleaner as the regular cleaner to keep the grout
durable and free from mold and mildew stain. Before replacing grout
or tile, it is critical that the area be cleaned with MoldZyme Stain
Cleaner so that the new grout is not being put on top of existing
mold and mildew stain that other cleaners may leave behind.
^top^
Is MoldZyme Stain Cleaner environmentally safe?
MoldZymeTM is 100% environmentally safe and biodegradable.
It is USDA accepted and Generally Regarded as Safe according to
CFR21 Sections 174-184. Further, all MoldZymeTM products are non-toxic
and do not contain any hazardous chemicals.
^top^
Will it harm plants or animals?
Unlike other commercial cleaners, MoldZyme Stain
Cleaner is safe for humans, animals, plant and marine life. Exterior
walls can be effectively cleaned and treated with MoldZyme Stain
Cleaner and a pressure washer without concern for harming landscaping,
plants, shrubs, flowers, or the environment.
^top^
What is its DOT Hazard Category?
Because MoldZyme contains no hazardous chemicals,
it can be shipped and handled without special HAZMAT procedures
or tariffs.
^top^
Will MoldZyme Stain Cleaner cause chemical sensitivities or reactions?
There have been no reported cases where any MoldZymeTM
product has caused any allergic reactions.
^top^
Does MoldZyme Stain Cleaner need special disposal?
No, all MoldZymeTM products can be safely washed
into the sewage system. Infact, the enzymatic formula will continue
to work by breaking down organic matter in the system, thereby keeping
pipes free-flowing.
^top^
Should I clean the area with a chlorine bleach solution before using
MoldZyme Stain Cleaner?
No, do not use chlorine bleach in conjunction with
MoldZyme Stain Cleaner. MoldZyme Stain Cleaner is used in place
of a chlorine bleach solution.
^top^
Should I mix MoldZyme Stain Cleaner with other chemicals?
No, do not mix MoldZyme Stain Cleaner with any other
chemicals. Caustic chemicals will destroy the enzymes.
^top^
What is the shelf-life of MoldZyme?
The shelf-life of MoldZyme Stain Cleaner is 2 years.
^top^
What temperature should I store MoldZyme?
We recommend you store MoldZyme Stain Cleaner at room temperature.
